Heavy *Ranftbecher* (beaker with a distinctively thick, applied base ring) made of colorless crystal glass; flared circular foot with diamond-cut decoration; conical body; the wall features an engraved scene of a horseman with a hunting dog in a wooded landscape; a floral border with unengraved circular motifs sits below the fused rim; the base features a polished pontil mark and an engraved signature. The beaker is in excellent condition. Master glass engraver Edgar Benna (1899–1979). Germany, second half of the 20th century. Height: approx. 13.0 cm; diameter: approx. 9.8 cm. Literature/Biography: Silesian glass artist; passed journeyman's examination with distinction in 1917; manager of an engraving workshop at the Josephinenhütte glassworks in 1919; appointed as a specialist instructor for glass engraving and cutting at the Municipal School of Arts and Crafts in Breslau; founded his own workshop; won 2nd prize in a design competition held by the city of Breslau; commissioned to design the large chandeliers for the Centennial Hall (*Jahrhunderthalle*); took over his father's workshop in 1937; conscripted into the Wehrmacht in 1940; accepted a teaching position at the Hadamar Glassmaking School in 1950, serving as a senior specialist instructor; recipient of the Eichendorff Plaque.
