Product Details

Glashütte: Neuwelt

A beaker made of decolorized, slightly manganese-tinged glass, with a bulbous bowl featuring a roller-cut design and hatched arched panels, a solid base with a polished foot and base ball, and a curved body. On the recessed side are three highly cut, oval medallions with carved, partly polished figurative depictions of clouds and a rising sun, above which is the inscription "Love, Happiness and Joy." Between the medallions are finely cut garlands, flowering branches, and leaves. The three highly cut oval medallions are bordered with polished, inwardly beveled rims. The beaker is in good condition, with small chips in the roller-cut design. It is from Northern Bohemia, likely the Harrach family's Neuwelt estate, circa 1830-35. The cutting technique could be attributed to Hieronymus Hackel (1784-1844). Height: approx. 12.8 cm, diameter at top: approx. 8.8 cm. Lit: Walter Spiegl, Hieromymus Hackel, alias Master of the Rising Sun, North Bohemian glass engraver.
