A tantalus (decanter stand) featuring a lockable satinwood frame with fan-shaped inlays, containing three clear crystal glass decanters. The decanters have rectangular bodies decorated with wedge-cut patterns and prism-faceted, spherical stoppers; their polished bases feature a star-cut design. The hinged brass mount is marked by George Betjemann & Sons, London, and the frame bears the mark: "Kirby, Beard & Co. LD. Fabrique en Angleterre." Each decanter is fitted with a porcelain label reading "Port," "Whiskey," and "Cognac." The set is in good, intact condition; the wooden frame shows signs of wear consistent with its age. A replacement key is included. Attributed to George Betjemann, circa 1900. Total height: approx. 29.8 cm; width: approx. 35.5 cm; depth: approx. 13.8 cm. Note: Regarding the inscription "Fabrique en Angleterre"—although the company operated a well-known luxury boutique in Paris, its metalware, needles, jewelry boxes, and silver items were manufactured in England, which accounts for the "Fabrique en Angleterre" (Made in England) stamp. Background: George Betjemann & Sons was a renowned London-based manufacturer of high-quality dressing cases, writing boxes, jewelry caskets, tea caddies, games compendiums, and tantalus sets, active from 1834 to 1939.
