Lidded box with fine black enamel painting, signed Emile Gallé, circa 1885

Covered box made of topaz-colored glass; cylindrical body with a domed lid, featuring multiple facets. The walls are decorated with very fine black enamel painting highlighted in gold; the underside of the lid depicts the mythical figure of Diane de Poitiers—mistress of King Henry II—portrayed as the goddess Diana with a hunting dog, based on a painting by an artist of the School of Fontainebleau. The exterior features landscape painting and a gold border; the base bears an engraved signature: "E. Gallé Nancy." The box is in good condition, with a microscopic chip on the inner rim of the lid.
