Glashütte: Josephinenhütte

Miniature vase made of transparent, olive-green, thick-walled glass, mold-blown and free-formed, iridescent under steam, spherical body with a recessed rounded base, tubular neck with a wide, overlapping rim, the sides with attached, free-form handles, underside with a polished pontil mark. The vase is in good condition. This type of glass was produced by the Josephinenhütte glassworks for the Ludwig Fellmer company in Mainz, based on designs derived from drawings of Roman, Frankish, and medieval glass in the Mainz Museum. Josephinenhütte, Schreiberhau, Opal-Cyprus Glass Series, circa 1881–1900, total collection of 236 pieces. Height: approx. 4.5 cm. Literature: Stefania Zelasko, Josephinenhütte 1900–50, pages 60–61.
